Laura Turner started her employment with Birmingham in 2001 after leaving school. Laura is visually impaired and uses a cane. Initially Laura worked in the administration department and started learning her job alongside study to achieve her Modern Apprenticeship.
After transferring to the Human Resources Department and working as a Training Administrator Laura was keen to develop her skills to deal with internal customers so she agreed that a Customer Services NVQ at level 3 would be ideal and this formed part of her Advanced Modern Apprenticeship.
Laura says " I left school as I preferred to go to work rather than attend college and yet within 6 years I have gained experience of work, I have a long list of training courses that I've attended and qualifications which give me transferable skills . For me learning at work has been much better than attending college."
