At the moment I’m retired on ill health. I did most of my school days in the Caribbean, which I didn’t learn as much as I have now, going to adult learning education.
I went to adult education in Osborne, just to improve my English, because there’s a lot of things that I know now that I really did not know before, which really helps me a lot, because I lost all my confidence and now just going back to education helps me gain the confidence that I’ve got. Because first of all I wouldn’t be here with you. It would take a lot for me to come here and do what I’m doing now if it wasn’t for the centre that I attend.
I wanted to do my NVQ in childcare for years but I did not have the courage and the confidence to pick myself to go and do it. So I had a leaflet come through the door and I looked at it and thought ‘no I can’t, there’s too many people and I’m gonna be scared’. I don’t know what happened but I just picked myself up and went. And I started off with the English and then I went on to do my NVQ in childcare, which I’m proud of. And I’ve got a certificate to prove it as well, but if it wasn’t for the centre I wouldn’t have been able to do it. I couldn’t have.
